Herman Sayler, 90, of Wishek, ND, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2026, at Wishek Living Center, Wishek. Herman lived a life defined by an unwavering work ethic and a genuine love for his family. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, May 4, 2026, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek. Burial will take place at St. Luke Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2026, from 2:00 - 3:00 pm with a prayer service at 3:00 pm at Feist Funeral Home, Wishek. Herman, a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, was born on December 5, 1935, in Wishek ND to Edward and Christina (Weisser) Sayler. He was one of sixteen children and was raised on the family farm southwest of Wishek where he also attended country school. He served in the National Guard for 12 years. Herman was united in marriage to Alvina Meidinger in Zeeland ND on July 23, 1959 and together they built a life rooted in devotion, laughter, and family. Herman and Alvina settled on the same farm where he was raised 16 miles southwest of Wishek. In 2010, they moved into the town of Wishek and in 2025, they moved into the Wishek Living Center.

Herman was the father of five children, 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Although not one to express himself, he was very proud of all of his children. Throughout his life, Herman was known as an exceptionally hard worker and worked to instill that same behavior in all of his children. In his own words, he always said he was born to work, even at the age of 90 years old, he could not sit still and still wanted to work. His farm was his pride and joy and he still went out there to tinker around well into his late 80's. He was proud that he had a dairy herd of over 100 milk cows, which was considered very large at that time. During his life, he raised almost every type of animal that could survive the North Dakota winters and was also a small grain farmer. Herman enjoyed trail rides with the Saddle Club, liked watching Western movies and enjoyed polka music. He was an avid bowler, loved bingo and appreciated a good game of pinochle. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church and was guided by his faith.

Herman is survived by his five children, Glenn (Glenda) Sayler, Rocky (Cathy) Sayler, Julie (Bob) Latta, Kirk (Jim) Sayler and Clint (Emily) Sayler; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; two brothers, Albert and Victor, and a sister Christine Witt; sisters-in-law, Ella Mae (Reinhold) Sayler, Marlys (Daniel) Sayler, Betty (Albert) Sayler, Deanna (Victor) Sayler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Alvina, his parents Edward and Christina Sayler; granddaughter Greta Sayler; sisters Eva, Clara, Edna, Irene, Landina and Arlena; and brothers, Ludwig, John, Jacob, Reinhold, Daniel, and Edward Jr.

Herman will be remembered for his tireless work ethic and extraordinary dedication to his family. Though deeply missed, his family takes comfort knowing he is no longer suffering and has been reunited with Alvina, where their love continues beyond this life. Dad, thank you for all you gave us. We will always carry your memory in our hearts.
