The funeral for Herbert Giesler will be Friday, May 15, 2020 at 10:30am at the First Congregational Church in Kulm, ND.  Visitation will be Thursday, May 14 from 5-7pm with a prayer service at 7pm at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm, ND.  Burial will be held at the Congregational Cemetery, Kulm, ND.

Herbert Giesler was born December 22, 1928, the son of Henry and Johanna (Goehner) Giesler.  He was born and raised on the family farm, 12 miles southeast of Kulm and attended school in Whitestone township.  He worked on the family farm until he purchased the Reinold Widmer farm in 1950.

On September 28, 1952, Herbert was united in marriage to Arlene Netz in the First Congregational Church in Kulm, ND.  They farmed and ranched on their farm together until 1987 when they moved in to Kulm.  Herbert continued to help his son on the family farm for many years.

In his pastime, Herbert was a player for the Merricourt-Kulm Baseball team until 1965, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping, however, most of all, Herbert loved being on the farm.

During his farm career, Herbert served as the director of the Kulm Farmer's Co-Op Elevator, FmHA board member and supervisor of Whitestone Township.  He was a member of the First Congregational Church and served as a cemetery sexton for the church.

Herbert died peacefully at home surrounded by family on May 8, 2020 under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.  He was 91 years old.

Herbert is survived by his wife Arlene of 67 years; daughter Denise (Terry) Estvold; Devil's Lake, ND; son Keith (Mary) Giesler, Kulm, ND; daughter Doreen (Scott) Kemp, Fort Collins, CO; five grandchildren, Patrick (Jennifer) Estvold, Larimore, ND, Meghan Estvold, Fargo, ND, Bradley (Alecia) Giesler, Kathryn, ND, Cheryl (Kyle) Anderson, Kindred, ND, Steven Giesler, Williston, ND; and eight great-grandchildren; sister Ivy  Klose, Jamestown, ND; sister-in-law Edna Giesler, Kulm ND,  and brother-in-law/sister-in-law Duane & Retha Netz, Sidney, MT.

Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Henry Jr., Fred, Oscar, Robert, and Harold; and four sisters, Martha, Ella, Esther, and Hulda.
