Henry Carl Jonas was born July 11, 1951 at Aberdeen, SD the only son of his parents, Carl and Frances (Nedrow) Jonas. He was raised on the Jonas family farm five miles south of Fredonia, ND. Henry attended school in Kulm, graduating in 1969. He attended North Dakota State University until returning home to farm with his father. Henry married Lourie Brick on February 27, 1982 at Fredonia, ND. They were blessed with three children, Acacia, Carly and Tyler. Henry was the third-generation to own the Jonas farm and had a beef, dairy and grain operation until 1996. Along with his wife, he started a new adventure when he purchased the bar in Fredonia. They operated the Third Base for 17 years. In addition, Henry also was a rural mail carrier and for the past nine years worked for Titan Machinery as a field marketer, where he enjoyed working with farmers and made many great friends along the way. Henry had the ability to connect with people wherever he went, often leaving with a lifelong friend. His patient demeanor, ability to truly listen and contagious smile will be forever missed. He rooted for the underdog and was known to lend a hand to someone down on their luck. A man of simple words, he seemed to know the right thing to say. One of Henry's greatest passions was playing baseball. Paired with his ability to teach, Henry coached many people throughout the years, whether it was the Fredonia Fires, softball or his children's little league teams. Henry was proud to say he played baseball in four decades, at age 59 he hit his last home run playing amateur baseball with his son. Henry served on many boards throughout the years in various leadership capacities including the Kulm School Board, Fredonia Park Board, Fredonia Coop Oil, Fredonia Lions Club and Fredonia Economic Development, where he was fundamental in helping build the café in Fredonia. Henry was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle. He was a family man and it was evident the way he lived his life. His children were his greatest joy and his proudest moments were spent with them. The past four years he enjoyed the new role as papa to his two grandchildren.

Henry died Saturday, October 26, 2013 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer at Sanford Health at Bismarck, ND. He was 62 years old.
