Gladys Kemmet, 88, of Wishek, passed away December 29, 2022, at the Wishek Living Center. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at 1:00 PM at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek. Burial will take place at St. Luke Cemetery in the spring/summer of 2023. A livestream of Gladys's funeral will be available on the St. Luke Lutheran Church YouTube Page.

Gladys Kemmet, daughter of Gottfried and Emma (Pahl) Kessel, was born June 30, 1934, at Ashley, ND. She grew up on the family farm and received her elementary education in Ashley and later attended Ashley High School. Gladys married Clifford Kemmet on November 4, 1952, at St. Andrew's Lutheran Parsonage. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Venturia area until 1955. They then started on the journey of owning and operating many businesses in the Wishek area, two Jack and Jill stores in Venturia and Wishek. In 1964 they purchased the local Ford dealership, where she was the bookkeeper until 1979 when they sold the business. She continued as the bookkeeper at Jim Weber Ford until 1995, when she retired after 31 years.

Gladys was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and served in many capacities, Treasurer, Council member, Auxiliary President, and taught Sunday school. Gladys was also active in the Wishek Eagles Club where she held many offices and volunteered along with Cliff to manage the local Eagles Club to keep it open, as an asset for the Wishek Community. Gladys and Cliff loved to travel with friends and see the country. Gladys loved to help her friends, she was always willing to take them to Dr. appointments in Bismarck or to the airport so they could fly out to visit relatives.

In 1995 her husband, Cliff passed away. Gladys's friends became her local family. Two very special friends were June Kemmet and Idella Vossler.

Gladys is survived by her children, Jerry (Cindy) Kemmet, Bismarck, Bruce (Marietta) Kemmet, Bismarck, Sheila (Marty) Bjornstad, Cando; 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; husband Cliff; one sister, Ruth Schock; two brothers, Leslie Kessel and Alvin Kessel.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be sent to the Wishek Living Center or St. Lukes Lutheran Church, Wishek.
