The memorial service for Gertrude Liversage, Napoleon, North Dakota will be held Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church Napoleon, ND. Inurnment will be in the spring with burial at the Finn Cemetery near the beloved family farm.

Gertrude (Laine) Liversage was born Feb. 22, 1924. She was the youngest child of August and Ida (Salminen) Laine. She grew up on a farm on the Logan-Emmons County border, graduating from Napoleon High School in 1941. Always wanting to be a teacher she attended Ellendale Normal and obtained her teaching certificate. By this time a dashing young farmer, Gavin Liversage, had caught her eye and they were married, Dec. 6, 1942. Gerti taught in Emmons Co. rural schools for many years. She was an accomplished seamstress, always volunteering whether it is for the American Cancer Drive, the Farmers Union Youth Programs, or the Golden Age Center in Napoleon. She was a charter member of the Log-Em County Homemakers group and an active member of the Retired Teachers from which she received a Silver Apple Award in 2003. She treasured her Finnish heritage.
Gertrude and Gavin were the exceptional parents of Kay (Frank) Koch, Bismarck & Robert (Bob) Liversage, Kintyre, two grandchildren, Nancy (Steve) Durow, Fargo, and Robert (Lonna ) Koch, Scandia, MN. Completing the family are three great grandchildren, Alex & Emily Durow and Isabel Koch and sister-in-law, Delores Laine, Napoleon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gavin, parents, one sister, Veino Seppanen, five brothers, Arne, Carlo, Eino, Oliver, and Eric.   Memorials may be directed to the Napoleon Care Center who lovingly cared for Gerti the past ten years.
