Gary Schnabel, 70, of Napoleon, ND, died May 20, 2023. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Napoleon. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery at 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 25, 2023.

Gary Lee Schnabel was born March 8, 1953 in Williston, ND to Walter and Kathryn (Hildenbrand) Schnabel. He attended rural farm school and when the family moved to Napoleon, he attended public school and graduated in 1970. From there Gary entered the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1972. He married Jan Hopfauf in 1980 and they later divorced.

Gary started his own sheet rock company, working in the Dickinson and Bismarck areas. He moved to Seattle, WA and worked there for many years before returning to North Dakota, where he lived in Napoleon and cared for his mother and father when their health failed. He went back to work in Bismarck. Upon "retirement" from working for others, he became a handyman doing jobs for people around town.

Gary is survived by his three brothers, Danny of Cambridge, MN, Randy (Judy) of Lincoln, ND, David (Tamara) of Phoenix, AZ; one sister, Karen (Jerry) Bauer, Bancroft, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Kathryn Schnabel and his younger brother, Alan.
