Obituary

Frances Weigel, 91, of Zeeland, ND, died March 4, 2024, at Linton Regional Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 10:30 AM at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Zeeland. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 5-7 PM with a rosary/vigil at 7:00 PM at St. Andrew's Catholic Church. Burial will be held at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, north of Zeeland. A recording of Frances's funeral service will be available on the funeral home website.

Frances was born May 18, 1932 in Zeeland, ND to Paul and Magdalena (Salwei) Jung. She was raised on a farm north of Greenway, SD. She attended a country school a half mile east of Greenway. After her eight years of education, she helped on the farm. At the age of 18, Frances moved to Aberdeen, SD and worked at various restaurants. One of the restaurants was the Harbor Café. In 1954, she married Frank Weigel, and they moved onto the Weigel Farmstead northwest of Zeeland, where they raised their children and dairy farmed until retiring in 1993. They continued to reside on the farm where Frances kept busy raising a huge garden every year.

Frances always enjoyed the spring and summer seasons because she could go outside and dig in her garden. She also enjoyed decorating cakes for family affairs, especially birthdays, reading and keeping a diary. She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Zeeland where she belonged to the Christian Mothers Society.

Frances is survived by her husband of 70 years, Frank Weigel, Zeeland; nine children, Daniel (Sheila) Weigel, Forest Lake, MN, Charlotte (James) Johnson, Odessa, MO, Kenneth (Darlene) Weigel, Bismarck, Myron (Brenda) Weigel, Zeeland, Julie (Jon) Dockter, Baldwin, Sally Weigel, Cottonwood, AZ, Lunette (DeLonce) Eberle, Hazen, Alan (Gail) Weigel, Fargo and Jeffrey (Laura) Weigel, Bismarck; 20 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; one brother, Tom (Carol) Jung; four sisters, Alice Schumacher, Margie Lovik, Mary (Jerry) Schmidt and Caroline Amundson; and one sister-in-law, Delores Jung.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Magalena Jung; one daughter, Arlene Frances Weigel; four brothers, Willie (Alvina) (Rose) Jung, Bob Jung, Jimmy (Kay) Jung and Paul Jung; one sister, Rose (Eugene) Nolz; and four brothers-in-law, John Schumacher, Pete Nold, Ken Lovik and Glenn Amundson.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be given to the St. Andrew's Christian Mothers Society.
