The memorial services for Evelyn Nies, Crookston, MN formerly of Wishek, ND will be held Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at 3:00 PM at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Wishek ND. There will be a prayer service Monday, October 12, 2015 at 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek, ND. Burial will be at St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery, Wishek, ND.

Evelyn Lovie Miller, daughter of Nathaniel and Fredrika (Dobler) Miller was born May 20, 1927 in Kulm, North Dakota. She moved with her family to Ashley, after the death of her mother and her Dad's remarriage to Katherine Bendewald Krause. She graduated from Ashley High School in 1947 and taught at a small farm school for 1 year. She married Wilbert J. Nies in July of 1947 and made their home near Burnstad ND, then on the Nies family farm southwest of Wishek. They raised their family of three children, Sandra, Mark and Richard, while raising crops and beef cattle. In 1966, she went to work at the Wishek Retirement Home as a nurse's aid, and eventually became its first activities director. She was in that position for over 30 years, helping to organize a statewide organization that she was very proud of. Evelyn loved spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Many of her nieces and nephews have many fond memories of her hospitality and humor while visiting at the farm. Evelyn and Willie were members of the Wishek Saddle Club, the Square Dancers, and lifetime members of St. Luke's Lutheran Church. Evelyn had many fun times as a member of the Red Hat Ladies. She and Willie spent many years at their home at Sunrise RV Park in Apache Junction AZ, and while there she used her organizational skills to put on many Christmas programs and other entertainment. She was very interested in genealogy and has accumulated much information and many stories for our family as well as German Russian pioneer stories. She also had an avid interest in music and was a member of the St. Andrews Choir as well as the St. Lukes Choir and singing groups in Arizona. They lived for a time in Napoleon, then Bismarck, where Willy passed away in February28, 2008, she then moved to Crookston MN where she lived at the Summit Assisted Living apartments for several years, moving into the nursing home in 2012.

Evelyn passed away quietly the morning of October 7, 2015 at the Summit Nursing Home in Crookston, MN. She was 88, years old.

Evelyn is survived her three children, Sandra (Arnold) Zimmerman, Rochester, MN, Mark (Nancy) Nies, Blanchard, ND and Richard (Brenda) Nies, Bismarck, ND; 8 grandchildren, three step grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren, one brother Dennis of the Twin Cities, two brothers in law, Elmer Nies and Tom Meidinger, and sister-in-law Donna Nies along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Wilbert, one granddaughter, Carrie Nies, her parents, 4 brothers, 3 sisters and 2 step sisters, 3 sisters-in -law and 1 brother in law.
