The funeral service for Eugene A. Schwengler, Jamestown, ND, will be held Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at 10:30 AM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon, ND. Visitation will be held Monday, February 18, 2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon, ND. Burial will be at St. Philip Neri Catholic Cemetery, Napoleon, ND.

Eugene A. Schwengler was born to Joseph (Joe) and Annie (Leingang) Schwengler on June 18, 1942 in Wishek, ND. He grew up on the family farm 15 miles south of Napoleon and attended country schools in rural Logan County. He lived on the family farm until 1964, at which time a tornado destroyed the farm. Eugene worked a short time for Logan County driving the gravel truck, and then was employed at the Strasburg Nursing Home as a CNA, before moving to Jamestown in 1968 where he was employed as the custodian at Jamestown High School for more than 20 years. During that time he also worked in several restaurants in Jamestown busing tables. Eugene did volunteer work at the State Hospital for 20 years, and also volunteered for the Orphan Grain Train in Jamestown, ND. Eugene enjoyed attending daily mass, reading, and visiting with friends.

Eugene died Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND. He was 76 years old.

Eugene is survived by two sisters, Viola (Rodney) Serr, Linton, ND, Leona (Lee) Nelson, Steele, ND; one brother, Sonny Schwengler, Napoleon, ND; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law, Verlyn Nelson.
