Ervin was born to August and Christina (Miller) Miller August 3, 1920 at the family farmstead near Lehr, ND. He attended rural schools in the area and for a short time, Lehr High School until he was needed on the family farm. Ervin married Luella Durr on June 23, 1941. She passed away in 1974. Ervin was a farmer by choice, a fisherman for pastime and a gardener for pleasure. His annual gardens were envied by many. Many days were spent gardening with Dawn, feeding the neighborhood cats, taking treats to Peaches the dog and taking apples to the horses at the ranch. Keeping his vehicles clean and shiny was also important. For those of us who knew him well, he was a soft spoken, gentle, kind man with a beautiful smile. He would say "give me a pipe and a pickup and I'm a happy man. Proud to be a resident of the Lehr community, he kept his loyalty, ties and roots to Lehr his entire life.
Ervin died Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at the Ashley Medical Center, Ashley, ND. He was 93 years old.
Ervin is survived by several nieces and nephews, a very special person, Dawn Dallman (the daughter he never had) and a 40 year friend, Barbara Walz. He was preceded in death by his wife, Luella, his parents, August and Christina, three sisters, Ida (August) Schauer, Alice (Gottlieb) Strobel and Lillian (Elmer) Olsen.
