The funeral for Emma Werre, Napoleon, ND will be held Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church at Napoleon, ND. Visitation will be held Friday from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon, ND. Burial will be at Gluckstal Lutheran Cemetery.


Emma Schumacher was born December 8, 1916 to Jacob and Eve (Dockter) Schumacher in Kidder County on the home farm west of Streeter, ND. She was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church southwest of Streeter. Emma received her education in a one room rural school through 8th grade. Emma married Art Werre on June 14, 1931 at Fredinstal Lutheran Church near Streeter. Together they farmed, ranched and raised a family south of Tappen for 37 years. They attended Gluckstal Lutheran Church until it closed in 1973. They retired in 1979 and moved to Napoleon, where they built a new home. They remained active members of Trinity Lutheran Church. Emma was a member of the church's Welca Ladies Group. She was an excellent seamstress and did much sewing for her family. Quilts were enjoyed by all of her children, grandchildren and many others. Upon moving to Napoleon she started a drapery business and sewed drapes for many Napoleon homes, along with bedspreads to match. A quilt project for all babies baptized in the church to receive a quilt was started by Emma and is still continued today. Emma was also an excellent cook and always had kuchen available for family and friends. She loved fashion and glitz, and was always dressed in the latest fashions. Emma enjoyed playing cards and Bingo. She was very independent and lived her life to the fullest until the time of her stroke in 2007.

Emma died Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at the Napoleon Care Center, Napoleon, ND. She was 96 years old.

Emma is survived by one son, Raymond (Barbara) were, Dawson, ND; three daughters, Viola (Leo) Wolf, Napoleon, ND; Marcille (Gerald) Rohrich, Bismarck, ND and Charlene (Lyle) Schuchard, Bismarck, ND; one son-in-law, Donald Schnabel, Steele, ND; one sister-in-law, Janice Schumacher, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, Donovan Schnabel, Robert Schnabel, Gary Schnabel, Timothy Wolf, Kevin Wolf, Barry Schuchard, Rick Schuchard, Ray Were Jr, Clint Werre, Lisa Rohrich, Julie Schwan, Tracy Famias and Amanda Werre; 28 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.
