The funeral for Emery K. Lindgren will be held on Sunday, April 14th at 3:00 PM in the Kulm Public School gymnasium. A prayer service will be Saturday, April 13th at 4:00 PM at the Kulm Baptist Church. He will be interred near his parents at the Kulm Swede Township Cemetery.

Emery Keith Lindgren, 66, turned his eyes upon Jesus Friday, April 5, 2019, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota, surrounded by loved ones. His journey with leukemia began in 2007, and he battled courageously through many bumps in the road. Even through his battles, Emery was blessed with the ability of seeing good in everything. He always found time to help others, lift spirits, see the positive side of life, and trust in God's grace and mercy.

Emery was born the fourth of five children to Carlton and Rose Lindgren on July 7, 1952. He was the first baby boy born in the hospital in Ellendale, ND. He grew up on the family farm northeast of Kulm, ND and graduated from Kulm High School in 1970. He went on to attend and play football at Bethel University and received his bachelor's degree in Secondary Education from NDSU. Emery married Jan Land on May 11, 1985. Together they had 3 children: Ross, Bryan and Jessa, whom he loved dearly.

He had many jobs over the years including running his painting business, being the Kulm city auditor, and operating the hotel in Kulm, but he took the most pride in being a teacher and coach. He taught history and social studies in Wishek and most recently in Kulm where he also taught tech ed. He loved coaching and coached football, basketball, and golf. He believed that there was something new to learn every day. As much as he taught his students, they also taught him. He was a teacher everywhere he went, and his goal was to make people think outside of what they knew.

Emery had many loves including family, faith, golf and music. He was an active, lifelong member of the Kulm Baptist Church, and when he wasn't working, he could often be found at the golf course, listening to blues and classic rock, or doing both. He shared his love of golf with his family. Many memories were made during their annual golfing trips to Arizona, Oregon, and Medora.

Emery is survived by his children Ross (Julianna) Lindgren, Bryan Lindgren, and Jessa Lindgren; granddaughter Cora; siblings Sharon (Carl) Linden, Bruce (Sue) Lindgren, Lowell (Margo) Lindgren, and Cheryl (Wesley) Gackle; his other brother Bruce Land, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless other people who loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents Carlton and Rose Lindgren.

Emery tried to live with the goal that every time he entered a room, he would leave the people in it happier than before he arrived. A thought to live by that Emery often closed conversations with: "Be a better person today. Make other people better."
