Obituary

The funeral for Elvera B. Elhard, Valley City, ND formerly of Jud, ND will be held Sunday, December 27, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Kulm Congregational Church, Kulm, ND. Visitation will be Sunday, December 27, 2009 from 10:00 AM to 12 noon at Dahlstrom Funeral Home in Kulm, ND. Burial will be at the Kulm Congregational Cemetery, Kulm, ND.

Elvera Grose, daughter of Herbert and Minnie (Stangeland) Grose was born September 29, 1934 at Douglas, N.D. She grew up and attended school in Tolley, ND, graduating in 1952. She attended and graduated from Minot State College. Elvera taught 5th and 6th grades in Gackle Public School for two years. Elvera was united in marriage to G. Rueben Elhard on June 23, 1957 at Tolley, N.D. Elvera and Rueben made their home on the family farm, southwest of Jud, N.D. and farmed there together until the death of her husband on May 12, 1975. Elvera continued to farm until 1989, when she moved to Bismarck and worked as a cashier at a grocery store. In 2004, she moved to Valley City to be closer to her family, and she again worked in a grocery store as a cashier. Elvera was a member of the Kulm Congregational Church, and was presently attending Elim Evangelical Free Church in Valley City. She enjoyed gardening, baking, reading, doing ceramics, watching FOX News, and attending her grandchildren's sports and other events.


Elvera died Sunday, December 20, 2009 at Mercy Hospital, Valley City, ND. She was 75 years old.


Elvera is survived by her children, Marcene (Peter) Fendt, Fargo, ND; Margaret Elhard, Valley City, ND; Mark (Shar) Elhard, Jud, ND; Brenda (Kirk) Dockter, Valley City, ND; John Elhard, Jud, ND; Elizabeth (Dan) Mehus, Valley City, ND; eleven grandchildren, Michelle, Amy, Charles, Benjamin, Andrew, Nathan, Chelsey, Hannah, Sam, Max, and Joey; one great-grandchild, Nora; three sisters, Kathy (Ed) Carlson, Bismarck, ND; Carole (Bob) Mehl, Minot, ND; Sue Jordan, Minot, ND. She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, Bruce, her parents, two sisters, Joyce Deppen, and Shirley Lee.
