The funeral for Elmer D. Sperling, 87, Lehr ND will be Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church at Lehr, ND. Visitation will be Monday, from 1:00 to 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek, ND. Burial will be at the Lehr City Cemetery, Lehr, ND.
Elmer Donald Sperling was born May 10, 1926 to David and Sophia (Essig) Sperling at Lehr, ND. Elmer attended school in Lehr and had been a lifelong resident of the community. He was united in marriage to Norma Eisenbeis on November 25, 1948. Elmer farmed and was also a substitute mail carrier. He owned and operated Sperling Standard Oil Service Station from 1959 to 1985. A complete line of Case Machinery and later Versatile Machinery were added to the business. Elmer served as mayor of the City of Lehr for 14 years and also alderman on the city council for an additional 14 years. He was a charter member of the Lehr Fire Department and a charter member of the Lehr Wildlife Club. Elmer was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Elmer passed away Friday, February 28, 2014 at his home at Lehr, ND. He was 87 years old.
Elmer is survived by his wife of 65 years, Norma, Lehr, ND; two sons, Thomas (Nancy) Sperling, Mandan, ND and Craig (Lori) Sperling, Wishek, ND; 4 grandsons, Dustin (Tressa), Tyler ( Erika Fryslie),Christopher and Matthew; one great grandson, Keller; one sister, Tillie Cave, Brainerd, MN; one brother-in-law, Charles (Linda) Eisenbeis, Mankato, MN.
