Elizabeth (Gross) Schatz, age 98, died peacefully Thursday, May 23, 2024. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2024 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM with a rosary/vigil service at 7:00 PM at Feist Funeral Home, Napoleon. Burial will be held at St. Philip Neri Cemetery. Elizabeth was born on December 12, 1925, to John M. and Magdalena (Vetter) Gross on the family farm 18 miles southwest of Napoleon.  As the oldest daughter, she helped care for younger siblings and with farm and housework.

She married Anton A. Schatz on November 26, 1946, at St. Anthony's Church.  They moved to a farm four miles west of Napoleon in 1947 where she and Anton farmed and raised their children and celebrated 62 years of marriage.  After Anton died in 2009, Elizabeth moved to the Napoleon Assisted Living Center where she lived for 9 years.  She then moved into the Napoleon Care Center and recently to the Wentz Living Center.

Elizabeth was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Christian Mothers, and several other organizations.  She was a devout Catholic who always said, "We can never pray enough."

Elizabeth always kept busy and enjoyed patch quilting, making rugs, crocheting doilies and afghans, embroidering, sewing clothes for her girls, and she absolutely loved going to craft day at the care center.  She and Anton did a lot of traveling, especially to see family.  Elizabeth enjoyed life and had a great positive attitude and was able to adapt to the changes in her life with grace and acceptance.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her infant son Michael; great-granddaughter Veronica Fettig; brothers Andrew and Fr. Richard Gross; sister Clara Braun; three infant siblings; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Those who will miss her dearly are her six children, Andrew (Rosemary), Woodbridge, VA; John (Gayla), Bismarck; Toni (Frank) Jund, Beulah; Claire (Jeff) Rotering, Mandan; Marian (Bryan) Nelson, Lovelock, NV; Marlene, Fargo; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; brothers Math, John, Ben,Val (Gean), Br. Placid, Pius, Isadore, and Leo;  sister Ann Dammel; and sister-in-law Caroline (Sam) Weigel.
