Obituary

Elizabeth Gunderson, 94, of Kulm, ND, passed away December 6, 2021 at Jamestown Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 13 th at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, Kulm. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 12 th from 6-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Zion Lutheran Church, Kulm. Burial will be held in the spring of 2022 at Highland Lutheran Cemetery, Cummings, ND. A livestream of Betty's service will be available at www.dahlstromfuneralservice.com under Betty's obituary.

Betty was born on May 9, 1927 in Elrod, SD to August and Mamie (Headley) Dekker.  She grew up on a farm in the Elrod area. She attended grade school in Elrod and 1945 she graduated from Clark High School in Clark, SD. She attended Mayville State Teacher College for 2 years where she received her teaching degree. She went on to teach at Ervin #4 Country School which was a one room school house that her future husband and two of her children attended. She taught there from 1947-1949.

Betty married Melvin Oliver Gunderson on December 28, 1948 in Moorhead, MN.  They settled on Melvin's family farm 4 miles east of Cummings, ND where they raised their 4 children. In 1969 Betty went back to work for Trail County Farm Bureau until retiring in 2003. She moved to Kulm, ND in 2007 where she resided until her passing.

Betty enjoyed attending school activities for her children, visiting and spending time with her grand children and great-grandchildren, gardening and traveling. Betty was a member of Highland Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school, served on the church council, was church secretary, and a church choir member. She was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Kulm.

Betty is survived by her children; Judi (Bill) Hillier, Grand Forks, ND, James (Laurie) Gunderson, Williston, ND, Jeff (Betty) Gunderson, Kulm, ND, Joel (Darla) Gunderson, Northwood, ND; grandchildren, Phillip (Amy) Gunderson, Matthew (Sarah) Gunderson, Paul (Sara) Gunderson, Jacob (Stephanie) Gunderson; 18 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tony (Ann) Gunderson, San Antonio, TX.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin in 1996; stillborn baby daughter; brother, James Dekker.
