The funeral for Edna Dockter, 89, Wishek, ND will be Monday, September 19, 2011 at 11:00 AM at St. Luke Lutheran Church at Wishek, ND. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek, ND. Burial will be at St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery. Edna died Thursday, September 15, 2011 at the Wishek Community Hospital, Wishek, ND.

In this season we offer back to you our mother, Edna. We ask that You keep her safe and warm until we meet again. As she leaves we ask that she be welcomed into her new life by her parents Magdalina (Kaul) and John Buck; step-mother Lydia (Remboldt) Buck; brother Alvin and sisters Esther (Becker), and Virginia (Fandrich/Shauer); husband Richard; father-in-law and mother-in-law Jacob F. and Martha Dockter; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Pauline (William) Oberlander and Rueben (Eleanor) Dockter, brothers-in-law Harry Dockter, Walter Dockter, and LeRoy Dockter.

A second generation German from Russia, she was born twelve miles south of Streeter, North Dakota, to Magdalena Kaul and John Buck. She attended Grenz Country School. She began her career working on the farm alongside her father and later with her husband. After their farm was sold, she worked as a nurse's aide on the nursing unit and in the Emergency Room; as well as an O.R. scrub tech and in Central Supply at the Wishek Hospital. During her lifetime, Edna had a passion for family and friends. She always had time for her children and grandchildren, to bake an awesome apple pie, have lunch with her many friends or to play a game of pinochle. Many enjoyed her crocheted and embroidered gifts. Until the end of her time here, she remained social, spirited and independent. Our mother died peacefully on September 15, 2011.

On June 13, 1946 she married the love of her life, Richard Dockter in Streeter North Dakota. They farmed five miles north of Streeter until 1965 when they moved to Wishek North Dakota. Richard and Edna attended St. Luke Lutheran Churches in Streeter and Wishek. Edna was active in choir (singing a solo, but just once, and in trios numerous times), taught Sunday school for many years, and attended Ladies Aide-Hannah circle in Wishek. They were blessed with five children and their spouses: K.C. and Linda (Dockter Berger) Inman, Ronald and Devona (Thompson), Clyde and Arlys (Bader), Rodney, and Ralph and Robin (Ost); as well as 14 grandchildren: Todd and Kris (Bakko) Berger, Tami (Dockter) and Bruce Shotts, Christopher and Peggy (Padilla) Dockter, Nathan and Tracy (Harris) Dockter, David and Jennifer (Strom) Berger, Matthew and Elizabeth (Reuter) Dockter, Ryan and Tammy (Stein) Dockter, Danielle and Kevin Ost-Vollmer, Rebecca (Dockter) and Christian Noble, Ramsey Dockter, Antonia Dempsey, Remington and Courtney (Becker) Dockter, Rodney Dockter II, Rhiannon Dockter; and 18 great grandchildren.

Her siblings include 7 sisters and 2 brothers. Living siblings include LaVerne (Raymond) Rueb, Odella (Reinhold) Hauff, Cincinnati (Oscar) Rueb, LeRoy (Alice) Buck, Vivian Rueb/Hansen, Marlys (John) Grasl. Other surviving relatives are sisters-in-law Alida (Schafer) Buck, Joyce (Williams) Dockter, Lorraine (Dockter) Schlacht, and Erna (Dockter) DuVall, and brother-in-law Lloyd (Virginia) Dockter.

We little knew that morning God was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly; in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you; you did not go alone; for part of us went with you the day God called you home. You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide; and though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.
