Ed was born on January 22, 1930, to Peter and Anna (Heidrich) Braun. He was raised and educated in the Strasburg area. On July 4 th , 1949 he was united in marriage to Marie Keifer. Ed and Marie moved to Bismarck where Ed was employed building homes as a foreman for Lund Construction. He was noted for being very meticulous in the construction of the homes he built. He and Marie then relocated to the Linton area where he farmed and continued to build homes. From Linton they moved to Tappen, where they farmed for 41 years. After Marie's passing, Ed moved to Steele for a number of years and met his special friend Genie Greer. Ed and Genie resided in Cleveland until his move to the Baptist Health Care Center in 2017.
Ed was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a trustee of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Tappen. Ed loved to play cards and was up to challenge anyone to a game of Pinochle. Gin Rummy was a game he enjoyed playing with his grandchildren. On the rare occasion he would lose, he would often declare, "Double or nothing!" and play another game. Dancing was another one of the many pastimes that Ed enjoyed throughout his life.
Ever the farmer, Ed asked any guest that came to see him, "Did it rain today?" He loved to take drives through "God's country" to see how tall the corn was or how much hay was left to put up. If there was a fellow farmer in the room you could bet that the conversation would steer toward the weather, cattle and crops. Ed may have left the farm but the farm never left him.
Ed passed away at the Baptist Health Care Center in Bismarck, ND on September 26, 2019.
Ed is survived by his special friend Genie, his children Ron (Phyllis) Braun, Don (Lori) Braun, Bob (Marilyn) Braun, Kathy (Gary) Doll and Francis (JoEll) Braun, 16 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, 1 brother and 6 sisters. He was preceded in death by Marie, his wife of 50 years, his parents, 4 sisters, 3 brother in-laws, and 1 great grandson.
The family would like to thank the incredible staff at the Baptist Health Care Center for the wonderful care they took of Ed during his stay. We can truly say that we had earth angels helping us through this difficult time.
And, yes Eddie, it is raining. Raining tears of sorrow in missing you. Tears of joy knowing that you are home in heaven with the angels and that life's struggles have been replaced with games of pinochle, dancing and the presence of God. We can't wait until we see you again.
