Obituary

The funeral for Edgar Thurn, Wishek, ND will be Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at 2:30 PM at St. Luke Lutheran Church at Wishek, ND. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek, ND. Burial will be at St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery, Wishek, ND.

Edgar Thurn, son of John F. and Pauline (Kaseman) Thurn was born at his grandparent's (Bernard Kaseman) home in Wishek, ND on November 24, 1932. He grew up on his parent's farm and attended rural school through the eighth grade. He worked on his parent's farm until his marriage to Marlene (Wanner) Thurn on November 5, 1960. They resided with his brother (Ruben) on his parent's farm for two years and then built a farm 10 1/2 miles southwest of Wishek where they raised two children. Edgar was a "Jack of all trades." He enjoyed carpentry and repair work. He loved music and you could see him singing and/or playing several musical instruments. Edgar was a member of the St. Andrew's Choir, German Choir, St. Luke's Choir, St. Luke's Men's Choir, St. Luke's council, Organist for the St. Paul Church as well as for the St. Luke's German service, a director of the St. Luke Men's Choir and a precinct committee man for the Republican Party. Edgar was a proud grandfather. He was happiest playing cards or games with his grandchildren.

Edgar was taken home with Jesus on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at the Ashley Medical Center at the age 78.


Edgar is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marlene, Wishek, ND; one daughter, Cheri M. Thurn of Bloomington MN and one son Daryl Edgar Thurn of Green Isle MN; six grandchildren; and two sisters, Rose Bader of Wishek and Loraine(Walter) Meidinger of Bismarck, ND; and four sister-in-laws Irene(Arthur) Thurn and Leona (Benjamin) Thurn both of Wishek ND-Elda Vera(John) Thurn of Fargo ND and Shirley(Ruben) Thurn of Ashley ND; and many nieces and nephews. Edgar was preceded in death by one daughter Julie Ann; his parents, two sisters Hilda Hildenbrand and Pauline Thurn; four brothers Arthur B Thurn, Benjamin Thurn, John Thurn and Ruben Thurn; and four brother-in-laws Art Bader, Alvin G.
