Obituary

The funeral for Duane C. Rodlund, Napoleon, ND will be Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church at Napoleon, ND. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon, ND. Burial will be at St. Helena's Catholic Cemetery, Ellendale, ND.
Duane Rodlund, son of Nathaniel and Helen (Thomas) Rodlund was born August 1, 1941 at Veblen, SD. He grew up in Ellendale ND and graduated from Ellendale Public High School on May of 1959. Duane was proud to tell his grandchildren how he was a state record holder in track for hurdles. After graduation, he completed one year of college for Electrical Engineering. On April 15, 1961 Duane married his high school sweetheart Janeice Rogers and they had three children. During their time in Ellendale, Duane worked for the City of Ellendale Water Department and for the Soil Conservation Service doing land surveying. In January of 1966, he began his 42 year career with Montana Dakota Utilities. He started as an Apprentice Lineman and was later was promoted to Journeyman Lineman. In 1970 Duane was transferred to Wishek, ND and served as the Electric Service Manager and later was promoted to the District Representative. In June of 1985, he was transferred to Napoleon and again served as District Representative until his retirement from MDU in June of 2008.
While living in Wishek, Duane was a member of the Wishek Jaycees, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Wildlife Club, Association of Commerce, and St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He played soprano bugle in the Wishek Drum & Bugle Corp and was a very active member of his bowling team. While living in Napoleon, he was a member of the Napoleon Business Association, Fire Department, Wildlife Club, Lions Club, Trap Shooting Club, St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, and Napoleon Bowling League. In Duane's early years, he enjoyed coin collecting, bowling, snowmobiling, hunting and fishing. In his later years, he began gun collecting and trap shooting. Duane had a love for technology. He was sure to always have the newest and latest computers and iPhones - spending countless hours on them. After losing his first best friend Janeice in 1997 he gained a new best friend, his dog Nala. They were inseparable.
Duane died peacefully on Friday, January 20, 2017 at the Napoleon Care Center, Napoleon, ND after a year long battle with cancer. He is now reunited with the love of his life, Janeice. He was 75 years old.
Duane is survived by his loving children, Charles (Geri) Rodlund, Napoleon, ND and their children Andrea (Derrick) Leier and their sons Brayson, Corbin and Riston, Alicia Rodlund and her son Karter, and Adrienne Rodlund; Tamara (Rich) Stansky, Lake Hopatcong, NJ and her daughter Madison McNabb; and Raymond Rodlund, Napoleon, ND; three brothers, Henry (Romy) Illies, Oakes, ND; Richard (LeAnn) Rodlund, Ellendale, ND and James (Jenny) Rodlund, Stillwater, MN; two sisters, Diane (Jerry) Hammer, Aberdeen, SD and Kathleen (Larry) Gatz, Watertown, SD and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Janeice, one grandson Dakota McNabb, his parents Nathanial and Helen Rodlund, and one brother Thomas Rodlund.
