Donna was born on March 7, 1938, to Markus and Katherine (Moch) Wald on the family farm in McIntosh County. Donna attended country school in McIntosh County until the eighth grade. Following her schooling she stayed at home and worked on the farm and was a babysitter for all the neighbors.

Donna met the love of her life, Joseph Feist at a dance in Eureka, SD. They were united in marriage August 19, 1957, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hague. Joe and Donna farmed his father's land from 1957 to 1964; they then moved to a farm nine miles east of Linton for eight years before moving back to the Lawrence Feist farm in 1971. Joe and Donna purchased the farmstead in 1978.

Donna was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, where she was part of the altar society, taught religion, made baptism gowns and blankets for many priests and was a rosary leader.

Donna enjoyed sewing and crafting. All her grandchildren have received blankets and dish towels throughout the years. She blessed many with her uniquely sewn baby blankets. Donna loved refinishing woodwork, raising chickens, gardening and milking cows. Donna was a very loving devoted wife to Joe and an amazing mother to her children and grandmother to all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Donna had a very strong faith, a hard work ethic and a strong desire to help others. She was always wanting to peel a potato to feed you when you showed up on her doorstep. Donna was a counselor to many in our community who were going through difficult times. Many phone calls were placed to those struggling with loss.

Donna is survived by her husband of 68 years Joseph Feist; children and grandchildren, Brenda (Kim) Krull  and their children, Jessica, Justin, Josh; Mark (Susan) Feist and their children, Mathew, Michael, Markenna, Mariana, Mason; Dorothy (Gerard) Meier and their children, Lance, Amy, Kyla, Raisha, Elliot; Evonne (Terry) Feist-Kroll and their children, Kristie and Evan (who were raised by grandma & grandpa); the late Steve (Shelley) Feist and their children, Paige, Madison, Payton; Shelley Vetter and her children Kynlie and Luke who Donna looked upon as her own grandchildren; Mary (Terry) Schwartzenberger and their children, Morgan, Jonah, Kali, Veronica, Jada, Aliyah, Xavier; Paul (Kathy) Feist and their children, Logan, Dalton, Gracyn, Dominick; and Susan (Adam) Strand and their son, Pacey (who was raised by grandma & grandpa); she is also survived by 32 great grandchildren; two sisters, Margie Piatz and Theresa Bates; sisters-in-law, Rose Wald, Millie Wald, Val Wald, Leona Feist, Pauline Buelow, Maggie (Martin) Leier, Alvina (Elmer) Madler, Florence (Gene) Mosbrucker and Mary Jean Feist.
