Deloris Zimmerman a beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away after a wonderful and inspirational life at the age of 89 in the Wishek Living Center. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 2, 2022 at 10:30 AM at First Baptist Church, Wishek. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2022 from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek. Burial will be held at St. Luke Cemetery. Deloris, daughter of Adam and Bertha (Kautz) Boschee was born April 29, 1933, at Wishek, North Dakota. She was raised and attended rural schools in the Wishek and Lehr area. From a young age she helped with the farm work, and with all the activities her mother did including cleaning the house, fixing the meals, butchering, milking cows twice a day, and "mothering" the 3 youngest of her 7 siblings.
She graduated from Lehr high school in 1950, briefly attended Ellendale State Teacher's College, and ultimately received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Valley City State University in Elementary Education. Deloris received a Certificate of Merit from the Valley City State University Alumni Association in 1991.
Her 43 ½ year teaching career started in a rural school near Lehr, followed by 3 years at Greenland Consolidated School near Marion, North Dakota. Deloris then taught first grade in Wishek for 39 years, teaching several generations of children to read and write. At the end of each year Deloris congratulated her students for graduating from the first grade and told them that she would be staying behind.
Deloris married Delmar Zimmerman on September 21, 1952. Both enjoyed their professional teaching careers which spanned over 40 years. They loved traveling throughout the United States and Canada visiting every state in the United States and every province in Canada except the Territories. Along with Bob and Verna Zimmerman they traveled the entire Lewis and Clark Expedition trail from St Louis Missouri to the Pacific Ocean during the years of 2001-2004. A trip to Germany as a 50 th wedding anniversary gift from their children and grandchildren was their most memorable trip.
Deloris was passionate about her hobbies and interests including reading, gardening, quilting, sewing, crocheting, doing crossword puzzles, and birdwatching. She was a charter member of the Wishek Quilting Guild, the Guild's President from 2002 to 2003, and a member of a local book club for many years. She was a member of the South-Central Retired Teachers Association and served as its secretary and historian for 20 years. The North Dakota State Retired Teachers Association awarded her the Silver Apple Teacher of the year award. She served as a member of the Home for the Aged Goodwill Ambassadors from 2007 to 2019. Together, Deloris and Delmar spent many hours researching their family histories as members of the German from Russia Heritage Society, read the entire Bible together, and the devotional "Daily Bread" every night. They attended first Baptist Church in Wishek for over 60 years.
Deloris and Delmar are the parents of two children, a son, Delore, married to Sonia (Breitling) of Grand Forks, North Dakota, and a daughter, Delette, married to Sam Lemon of Denver Colorado. Deloris and Delmar have two grandchildren, Ian Zimmerman, married to Christina (Limmer) and Rachel Zimmerman. Rachel's son Levi Olson is their only great grandchild. The entire Zimmerman family spent the last week in July at a resort in Minnesota continuously for almost 40 years. They were together to celebrate their approaching 70 th wedding anniversary at the time of Deloris' passing.
Deloris was preceded in death by her parents Adam and Bertha Boschee; 4 brothers including an unnamed baby, Leroy, Clarence, and Floyd; sister-in-laws Elva, Wilma, Karen, and Marlys Boschee and Cheryl Zimmerman; brother-in-laws James Brandt and Robert Zimmerman; nephews Bruce, Dwight and Eric Boschee, nephew Dustin Zimmerman, and a niece Dana Brandt.
She is survived by her husband Delmar, her children Delore (Sonia), and Delette (Sam), grandchildren Ian (Christina) and Rachel, and great grandchild Levi, brothers Reuben (Linda) and Adam Boschee, and sister Bertha Shirley Brandt; brother-in-law Gail Zimmerman and sister-in-law Verna Zimmerman.
