With heavy hearts the family of Christ J Leier, 90, say farewell to their dearly loved father, grandfather and brother.  Christ passed from this world into God's loving arms on April 3, 2024. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 8, 2024, at 10:30 AM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon. Visitation will be on Sunday, April 7th, from 4-5:30 PM with a rosary/vigil at 5:30 PM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. Burial will be held at St. Philip Neri Catholic Cemetery, Napoleon.

Christ was born to John and Helen (Johs) Leier on February 19, 1934. He was raised on the family farm 13 miles southwest of Napoleon. As a youth, he attended St Boniface Catholic Church, Weigel Township School and 4-H Club.

He entered the US Army in January 1957 and received a medical honorable discharge in August 1957.

After returning home from the service, he married his love, Mathilda (Tillie) Piatz on September 30, 1957, at St. Anthony's Church. Together they raised their 6 sons and 3 daughters on their family farm 2.5 miles west of Burnstad where they were faithful members of St. Claire's Catholic Church until retirement to Napoleon in 1994.  After 1994 Christ and Tillie became active members at St. Phillip Neri Church.  Christ and Tillie enjoyed 59 years of marriage and living out their golden years together until Tillie's passing on January 8, 2017.

Christ was known to be a lifelong leader in the community.  He was active in his children's lives with leadership roles as a 4-H Club leader and CCD teacher for decades and chosen as the Catholic Family of the Year in 1985.  He was a member of the St Lawrence K of C Council #4496 since 1963.  He served through the ranks of the offices for the Council and was Grand Knight in 1975-76 and Knight of the Year in 1980 and youth director for the Columbian Squires in 1979-80.

The services Christ has performed in his community go beyond his church related activities.  He served on the Board of Directors for the Farmers Union Elevator, Napoleon School Board, Logan County Livestock and Grain Association, the ASCS Logan County Committee, the American Legion Barry-Hoff Post #72, and President of the Napoleon Golden Age Club.

Christ was a student of his profession and strove to continually learn and improve his small grain, beef, and dairy farming practices. This resulted in one of his more noteworthy achievements by receiving the Logan County Agriculturalist of the Year Award in 1983 which was presented at North Dakota State University.

Christ enjoyed card parties, hospitality, and gatherings. In retirement he delivered Meals on Wheels with Tillie and volunteered at the Logan County Museum. However, his greatest joys were spending time with his beloved wife, (Tillie), his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Christ cared deeply for his family. It was evident that Christ and Tillie were cherished dearly as their children made it a priority to spend quality time on weekends and care for and visit their parents throughout the years.

Christ is survived by his 9 children Tom (Lori), Bismarck ND; Kenneth (Sheryl), Madison WI; Duane, Rapid City SD; James (Tami), Mandan;  Sharon (Tom) Martinson, Fargo; Perry, West Fargo;  Connie (John) Sova, Jamestown; Dennis (Celeste), Tucson AZ; Denise (Bryan) Goehring, Fargo; his brothers Anton and Mike; his sisters, Phyllis Leier, Maggie Riedlinger, Leona Frohlich, Alvina  Frohlich, Clara Rogers,  Helen Schatz and Betty Stroh, 16 grandchildren,  14 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild.

Christ is preceded in death by his wife Mathilda (Tillie); father and mother (John & Helen Leier); brothers Joe and Adam and sister Johanna Wald.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be offered to the Wentz Living Center in memory of Christ Leier in thanksgiving for the excellent care he had received during his stay.
