The funeral for Charles Curtis Rau, Napoleon, ND will be held Monday, December 18, 2017 at 10:30 AM at the Salem United Methodist Church, Napoleon, ND. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 6:00 PM Sunday with a prayer service at 6:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon, ND. Burial will be at the Napoleon City Cemetery, Napoleon, ND.
Charles C. Rau was born on September 27th, 1942 to Eugene and Ruth (Zimmerman) Rau. He grew up in Napoleon on the family farm. He attended Rural Cokato Township School through 8th grade and later attended and graduated from Napoleon High School in 1960. Charles then enlisted in the National Guard where he served 23 years and eventually retired as a 1st Sargent. He married Lorraine Lachenmeier on October 16th, 1966. Following their marriage, they lived in Napoleon on the family farm and he also worked at Wolf's Farm Equipment for several years.
Lorraine would always say, "Charles and all his boards!". He was involved in the Tri County Fair Board, Pastor Parish Board, Cokato Township School Board, Logan County Weed Board, and a variety of church boards. He served as Commander of Barry-Hoff American Legion and was Commander of the Color Guard. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church where he often ushered, and he was Chairman of the Grain & Livestock Association. Charles lived his life as a farmer and rancher until the day he died. Charles took pride in his black angus herd and a variety of other farm animals including his three dogs (Riley, Randy, and Sage). Away from the farm, Charles enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.
Charles Curtis Rau passed away on December 14th, 2017, in Fargo, ND at Roger Maris Cancer Center surrounded by family. He was 75 years old.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife Lorraine and their two children: Anita (David) Horner, Fargo, ND; Travis (Melody) Rau, Bismarck, ND; five grandchildren – Nicholas (Jordan) Horner, Nathan Horner, Samantha Horner, Fargo, ND; Noah Rau, Isaiah Rau, Bismarck, ND; one brother - Delane (Kay) Rau, Wishek, ND; one sister – Karen (Gary) Volk, Fargo, ND; one sister-in-law, Adeline (Marvin) Wolf, Dawson, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Ruth (Zimmerman) Rau and his in-laws, Willie and Helen (Bender) Lachenmeier.
