Carolyn Gross, 84, of Bismarck formerly of Napoleon, ND, was called to eternal life September 26, 2023. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 30th at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon. Visitation will be on Friday, September 29th from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. Burial will be held at St. Philip Neri Cemetery. Carolyn Weigel was born October 13, 1938, on her family's farm south of Kintyre, ND. She was the fifth of seven children of Baltzer B. and Katherine (Wangler) Weigel. She was baptized and confirmed at her home parish of St. Boniface and attended a nearby rural school through the eighth grade.

Carolyn was joined in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life, Alvin Gross, at St. Anthony's Church, south of Napoleon, ND, September 25, 1961. They were married for 59 years.

Carolyn and Alvin made their home on his parents' farm along State Highway 3, where they ran a dairy and small grains operation and raised their three sons. Carolyn was a diligent and tireless worker and was an extraordinary homemaker and cook. She grew a large garden every year and canned dozens of jars of pickles and other produce. She also insisted on raising and butchering many chickens every year.

In the early 1990's, she and Alvin made the transition from dairy to beef cattle, and this change enabled them to take several bus trips, thus taking part in traveling and sightseeing that they did not have time to do before. Carolyn also took a job with the Napoleon Care Center in the dietary department and continued to work in both the skilled care and assisted living sections for over 20 years.

In 2003, Carolyn and Alvin purchased a home in Napoleon after having gradually downsized and sold off the farmstead and most of their equipment. While living in Napoleon, Carolyn became more active at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and helped regularly with tending the sanctuary flowers and plants, as well as decorating for the Christmas and Easter seasons. She also assisted often as a sacristan for the Masses celebrated at the Napoleon Care Center.

Carolyn and Alvin decided to sell their home and move to Bismarck in the summer of 2015. As their health began to decline, they moved from their apartment to Benedictine Community in the spring of 2017. Following Alvin's death in late 2020, Carolyn moved to Hay Creek Lodge assisted living facility in Bismarck.

Carolyn was an inspiration to her children, grandchildren, many relatives, and all who came to know her. Most important to her family was her steady devotion to Jesus, a wonderful legacy and example to follow. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, Rest In Peace.

Carolyn is survived by her sisters Agatha and Medy and her brother Ben, sons Daniel (Vicky) of Bismarck, Kenny of Beulah, and Father James of Grand Forks, five grandchildren: Shanna, Faith, Riley, Grace, and Jacob, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alvin, and sisters Agnes, Helen, and Mary Ann.
