Caroline Elisabeth (Lundgren) Lindgren was born to Signar and Jennie Lundgren on June 14, 1917, in Parshall, ND. Her family moved back to Kulm when she was four years old, and she was proud to be a life-long resident of Kulm ever since. On October 1, 1938, Caroline married Edwin Lindgren. He was the Kulm postal clerk and rural mail carrier for 33 years, retiring in 1975. They were true partners in all they did in life. They both treasured their Swedish heritage and made two trips to Sweden during their marriage to visit relatives. Edwin passed away on December 12, 1995. Caroline had an exceptional gift of hospitality, which she shared throughout her life with family, friends, and even strangers. Newcomers and visitors to Kulm were often directed to Caroline's house, where it was understood that the door was always open, and hardtack and coffee were standard fare. Caroline was a life-long member of the Kulm Baptist Church. She and Edwin were church custodians for 27 years, and she was very active in the church's women's ministry. Caroline found ways to express her quick wit, grateful heart, generosity and unconditional love every day. She lived a life of faith, devoted to God, family, friends and community. For her life, we are grateful. She will be dearly missed.
