The funeral service for Calvin E. Hochhalter, Wishek, ND, will be held Friday, November 17, 2017, at 10:30 am at the Faith Community Church, Wishek, ND. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek, ND. Burial will be at the Wishek City Cemetery.
Calvin Hochhalter, son of Emanuel and Maria Magdalena (Ketterling) Hochhalter was born March 14, 1928 on the family farm 4 miles west of Wishek. He attended school at Salem School #1, four miles west of Wishek and worked on the family farm until 1954, at which time he took over the farm. On October 10, 1954, Calvin married Verna Wanner, in Wishek. They farmed until 1978. Calvin started working for Russ Dohn at the Mobil Gas Station, as a station attendant and then as a bulk truck driver for Sinclair. They moved into Wishek in 1992. Calvin worked for Russ Dohn for over 20 years, and continued to work for the business after it was purchased by Curt Michaelsohn. Calvin was a member of the Saddle Club, Wishek Wildlife Buffalo Supper Committee, and the United Church of Christ of Wishek. He had served on the ASCS Committee and the church council. Calvin enjoyed riding horse and playing cards. Calvin entered the Wishek Living Center in January 2017.
Calvin died November 13, 2017 at the Wishek Living Center, Wishek, ND. He was 89 years old.
Calvin is survived by his wife, Verna, Wishek, ND; one son, Terry (Debra) Hochhalter, Linton, ND; one daughter, Mary (Gerard) Schwab, Strasburg, ND; five grandchildren, Chrisy (Jeff) Rotondo, Michael Hochhalter, Kayla (Loren) Hendrickson, Mandy (Rob) Hummel, and Jesse Schwab; six great-grandchildren, Trey, Tate, Kaylyn, Brady, Dylan, and Aubrie; two sisters, Luella Meidinger and Lea Just; and one sister-in-law, Lorrene Hochhalter. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Reinhold and Gottfried, one sister-in-law, LaVina Hochhalter, two brothers-in-law, Elmer Meidinger and Albert Just.
