Butch was born September 2nd, 1954 in Wishek, ND, the son of John S. Schumacher and Rosemary (Bitz) Wangler. As a young boy, he lived with his family on a farm southeast of Napoleon, North Dakota, (known as Peters Siding). In his teens, he raised horses, was a working man, and father-like figure to his 6 siblings. He attended schools in Napoleon and Bismarck and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1973. In his twenties, Butch returned to rural Napoleon. He purchased his home quarter of land where he established a diversified grain and cattle ranch. On November 28, 1980, Butch married Bon Wikenheiser and together they have four children. His children, John P., Nina, Sara and Adam have always been the center of his life. In his thirties, Butch developed his natural cattle buying skill. He continued to expand his feedlot and farming career in the years that followed. He purchased and managed Missouri River Livestock in Linton, ND, from 1992-1997. After, he returned to Napoleon to continue living his dream. A perfect day for Butch started with an early rise, a dose of Fox News, and conversations with his family and friends. He is blessed to be called "Papa" by Emma, the granddaughter he truly loves. He cherished the pride of calving each spring, harvesting each fall, and watching his brothers, son, and nephew wrestle each winter. On any given day, you know you could find Butch playing gin with his friends.
John "Butch" William Schumacher went to heaven on Monday, May 2nd 2011. He died at his farm, unexpectedly of a severe heart attack. He was 56 years old.
Butch holds his children, John Paul, Nina (Derek) Wentz, Sara, and Adam John and Sara's daughter, Emma, dear to his heart. He loves his mother, Rosemary (Ramy) Wangler, sisters and brothers Linda (John) Putz, Sandie (Steve) Van Voorhis, Gary Schumacher, and Jeff (Doreen) Schumacher, all of Bismarck, Steve (Pat) Schumacher of Minneapolis, and Tom (Elizabeth) Schumacher of Sriracha, Thailand. Linda Vetter, of Linton, was a close personal companion for many years. Butch now joins his dad, John S., and little buddy Bobby Schumacher.
