The funeral for Betty Fettig, Napoleon, ND will be Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 10:30 AM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon, ND. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon, ND. Burial will be at St. Philip Neri Catholic Cemetery, Napoleon, ND.

Betty Wald was born August 17, 1926 at Napoleon, ND the daughter of Stanis and Agatha (Wangler) Wald. She attended St. Francis Academy at Hankinson, ND for two years and graduated from Napoleon High School. After graduation she attended Valley City State College earning her associate degree and taught in rural schools. Betty married Valentine Fettig on June 16, 1947 at St. Philip Neri Catholic church at Napoleon, ND. She and Valentine farmed north of Napoleon, working side-by-side until their retirement in 1980 when they moved into Napoleon. Aside from her farming career Betty was an insurance agent for Nodak Mutual Insurance. She enjoyed her clients and they appreciated her. She cherished her Catholic faith and was an active member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. She was also an active member of the ND Farm Bureau and served on the board of the Napoleon Care Center where she also spent time as a volunteer. She loved to sing and enjoyed being a member of the VIP ladies singing group. Betty and Valentine enjoyed traveling throughout the US and made a trip to the Holy Land in 1975. After Valentine's death in 1995 Betty continued to travel from coast to coast with family and friends never declining an invitation to explore new areas. Betty had a warm and gentle way about her, always willing to listen and encourage others. She loved to read and was interested in learning new things. After mastering the computer she enjoyed staying in touch with family and friends by E-mail and spent hours playing games on her iPad. She had a competitive spirit and loved getting together several times a week with her "card playing friends." Betty was so grateful to be part of this special group that supported one another. Spending time with family always brought joy to her heart and a big smile to her face.

Betty died peacefully on January 31, 2016 surrounded by her family at St. Gabriel's Community at Bismarck, ND. She was 89 years old.

Grateful to have shared her life are her children, Barbara Zimmerman (Rick Larson) Bismarck, ND, Stan (Sonja) Fettig, Pueblo, CO, Cleo Halm, Duluth, MN, Darcy Fettig (Kathy Feist) Bismarck, ND and Darwin Fettig, Bismarck, ND; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Victor (Barbara) Wald, Napoleon, ND; sister, Phyllis Volk, Camby, OR; brothers-in-law, Norman Ballard, Vancouver, WA and Joseph Fettig, Napoleon, ND; sisters–in-law, Margaret Fettig and Mary Fettig, Napoleon, ND. She is also survived by special nieces and nephews throughout the United States. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Valentine, infant great-granddaughter Veronica Fettig, parents Stanis and Agatha Wald, son-in-law Barry Halm, grandson-in-law Greg Griffin, sister Ann Ballard, brothers-in-law Henry Volk, Frank, Ben, John Fettig, nephew Michael Fettig, sisters-in-law Margaret and Veronica Fettig, all of Napoleon, ND.
