Obituary

The funeral for Berneice Nagel, Wishek, ND will be Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the United Church of Christ at Wishek, ND. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek, ND. Burial will be at the Lehr City Cemetery, Lehr, ND.


Berneice Becker daughter of Fred P. and Ida (Geigle) Becker was born April 12, 1933 at Fredonia, ND. She grew up and attended rural school in Fredonia and Lehr, ND. Ida passed away and her father remarried Ida's sister Martha Becker. Bernie was married to Clayton Nagel on April 15, 1949 at Lehr, ND. They farmed eight miles southeast of Lehr then later moved two miles east of Lehr where they raised their family. In 1978 Berneice divorced and moved into Lehr and later moved to Wishek. Bernie worked for Pam's Steak House, the Roughrider Lounge, before purchasing the bar and renaming it Bernie's Lounge. She sold the bar in 2003 and managed the Market Café, worked at Cinema Buns and Stan's Super Valu. Bernie was on the Wishek City Council serving on her 2nd term and also was involved in Homemakers, American Legion Auxiliary, Sauerkraut Committee and managed the Eagles Club bar from 75 to76. Bernie was a member of the Wishek Red Hats and Sunny Land Notes at the present. She loved to dance, especially the Polka, playing cards, darts, bingo, singing, Wii bowling and an avid joke teller.


Bernie died Thursday, December 24, 2009 at the Wishek Community Hospital, Wishek, ND following a courageous battle with cancer. She was 76 years old.

Bernie is survived by her five children, Linda (Paul) Wadman, New Castle, IN; Merdel (Susan) Nagel, Lehr, ND; Valerie (Steve) Rohweder, Wishek, ND; Trayce L. Nagel, Wishek, ND; Kari Nagel, Jamestown, ND; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Warny (Arlys) Becker, Wishek, ND; Arnie (Yvonne) Becker, Jamestown, ND; Darvin (Marcella) Becker, Fargo, ND; three sisters, Luella Boschee, Jamestown, ND; Cora Lachenmeier, Lodi, CA; and Loretta Piehl, Marion, ND.
