The funeral for Bernard "Ben" Fettig, Napoleon, ND will be Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 10:00 AM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon, ND. Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon, ND. Burial will be at St. Philip Neri Catholic Cemetery, Napoleon, ND.
Bernard "Ben" Fettig, son of Anton and Christina (Burkhart) Fettig was born November 27, 1924 in rural Logan County, ND. Ben received his education at Weigel School #2 and attended Napoleon High School. Ben married Catherine "Katie" Weigel November 4, 1946 at St. Boniface Catholic Church. They lived with her mother until the fall of 1948 when they purchased a farm north of Tappen, ND. Ben was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church at Tappen and served on various committees and church boards. Ben had been a member of the Westford Township Board and the Tappen School Board. They retired to Napoleon in December of 1990. Ben enjoyed planting trees in the spring for the Logan County Soil Conservation and volunteering at the museum for several years. Ben entered the Napoleon Care Center in May of 2009.
Ben passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011 at the Napoleon Care Center, Napoleon, ND. He was 87 years old.
Ben is survived by ten children, Alois (Mary) Fettig, Burnsville, MN; Steven (Carla) Fettig, Bismarck, ND; Jeffrey (Bonnie) Fettig, Tappen, ND; Tommy Fettig, Lincoln, ND; Marvin (Berdina) Fettig, Bismarck, ND; Margaret (Larry) Doyle, Valley City, ND; Mary (Gene) Hartl, New Rockford, ND; Eileen (Doug) Knutson, West Fargo, ND; Diana (Allen) Guthmiller, Bismarck, ND; Karri (Bryan) Stroh, Tappen, ND; 23 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Emma Berg. Ben was devoted to the care of his wife, Catherine of 65 years, who preceded him in death on November 27, 2011. Also preceding him in death was one grandchild, Sara Catherine Fettig, his parents, Anton and Christina, step-mother, Ottilia, two sisters, Barbara Borsum and Katie Schlosser, five brothers, Phillip, Joe, John, Baltzer and Wendelyn.
