Barbara Gross the youngest child born to Mathias and Barbara (Schweitzer) Gross on September 4, 1919, in Logan County, was a strong, faithful, and enduring woman. She was united in marriage to Peter Brendel September 21, 1943. They farmed south of Napoleon. With their faith and love, they proudly raised their seven children. She welcomed her family with an infectious smile and enjoyed spending time with all her children. She resided on the home place, until moving to her home in Napoleon in 1980. She spent the last years of her life in Bismarck. Barbara was a hard worker and a generous lady. She hand-stitched and gifted baby blankets to her grandchildren, great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. She enjoyed gardening, baking and cooking. Her family will miss her strawberry-rhubarb jelly, cream noodles, kuchen, plachenda, homemade pies and bread! She loved playing pinochle, entertaining her entire family for special occasions, and always enjoyed laughing at a good joke. She was an active member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and Christian Mothers in Napoleon. Attending mass, lighting candles, praying the rosary, and Holy Water were all part of her everyday life. Barbara believed in tradition and graciously passed hers on to her children. Barbara Brendel was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She will forever be remembered for her faith, strength and passion for life.
