Obituary

The funeral for Austie M. Rattei, Napoleon, ND will be Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Napoleon, ND. Visitation will be Friday, August 12, 2011 from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon, ND. Burial will be at the Napoleon City Cemetery.

Austie Mahre Porter daughter of Curtis and Mildred (Peckins) Porter was born May 16, 1921 at Moffit, ND. Austie attended Moffit schools and graduating in 1938. She was an excellent athlete and received an academic scholarship. Austie was united in marriage to Fred Rattei. They farmed in the Steele and Tappen, ND areas. Austie and Fred moved to Napoleon in 1951 where they raised their eight children. Austie was active at St. Matthews Lutheran Church. She served as a leader in L.W.M.L. at the local and state levels. She had a sincere interest in the welfare of children. She was honored as a Staate Mother of the Year in 1980. Austie gave support to her family by working at both the Wentz and Wurl Cafes. Austie used her talents in sewing and needlework. She made quilts for all her grandchildren and for church missions. Austie enjoyed sharing her fine handiwork with friends and family.


Austie a creative servant of God who cared deeply for the needs of others was called to be with her Lord, Sunday, August 7, 2011 at the Wishek Community Hospital, Wishek, ND. She was 90 years old.

Austie is survived by her eight children; Peggy (Robert) Donahe, Dent, MN, Rachel (O.J.) Erlund, Comfort, TX, Viola (Ken) Lampe, Warsaw MO, Gerald (Mary) Rattie, Napoleon, ND, Nancy (Brian) Hansen, Taber, Alberta, Canada, Anthony (Telma) Rattie, Seminole, TX, Jordan (Lita) Rattei, San Diego CA, Jaycen Rattie, Phoenix, AZ,; 18 grandchildren 23 Great-grandchildren. She will be missed by many nephews and nieces and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Rattei, parents, four brothers, three sisters two infant sons and daughter-in-law Theresa (Jaycen) Rattei. The family has selected Dakota Boys Ranch to receive memorial gifts in lieu of flowers.
