Arthur "Art" James Schloss, 82, peacefully passed away Monday morning October 26, 2020 at his home in Napoleon, ND, surrounded by family and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.  He fought a short, but courageous battle with cancer.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, November 2, 2020 at 10:30 AM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon.  Visitation will be held Sunday, November 1 ^st from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at St. Philip Neri.  Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND following the funeral at 2:00 PM.  A live stream of Art's funeral service will be available on the St. Philip Neri Facebook and YouTube pages.

Arthur James Schloss was born on May 22, 1938, to parents Eva (Miller) and Jacob Schloss and was the second of six children.  He was raised on the family farm in Gladstone.  After his schooling in Dickinson, he served in the Air Force as a weapons mechanic from December 1 ^st 1959 to November 18 ^th 1963 working primarily with the F-100 Super Sabre aircraft.  He attained the rank of Airman First class.  Upon discharge from the USAF he worked for Hazen Electric as an electrician.

Art married the love of his life Lucille "Lucy" Muth on October 11, 1965 and lived in Hazen, ND where Lora and Mary Beth were born.  The family moved to Jamestown where he worked for about 18 months wiring mobile homes.  Having heard of a need for an electrician in Napoleon, ND, Art moved his family there and expanded with Judy, Dean, and Vicki.  Here, they raised their children and lived out the rest of their lives.

Art was an avid reader and could always be found with a good, or not so good book in his hands.  He would often read the books several times and enjoyed collecting all the books in a series. He enjoyed tinkering in his shop and whenever the girls broke something they always brought it home for him to fix.  Art delighted in spending time with his son Dean and helping him with various projects.  He also had a bit of a sweet tooth and enjoyed when the grandkids would bake for him.   He had a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor.  He was quiet by nature, but probably never got to say much when Lucy was around.  After her passing he kept to himself, but enjoyed visits from members of the community.

Art is survived and will be greatly missed by his five children: Lora Bodin (Jon), Mary Beth Schloss, Judy Schloss (James), Dean Schloss (Katie), and Vicki Olson (Anthony) and eleven grandchildren: Gabrielle and Jacob Bodin; Ellenya, Maksym, and Lucian Urzedowski; Violet, Elise, and Troy Schloss; Skylan, Rhett, and Boone Olson.  Art is also survived by his siblings Dennis Schloss (Sheila), Diane Schloss and Rita Schloss and many nieces and nephews.

Art was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years Lucille, his parents Jacob and Eva Schloss and his siblings James Schloss and Agnes Mallory.
