Ketterling
Nov 19, 1935 — Nov 25, 2025
Wishek
Arthur (Art) E. Ketterling of Wishek, ND passed away on November 25, 2025, at South Central Health Wishek, ND. Art had just celebrated his 90th birthday, a milestone he was proud to say only 2% of men accomplish.
Art was born November 19, 1935 in Artas, SD. His parents, Albert and Eva (Meidinger) Ketterling, then farmed briefly in Casselton, ND before moving to what became the Ketterling family farm located between Wishek and Zeeland, ND. A farm now in it's 4th generation of farmers. Art grew up on this farm and later took over the farm when his parents retired in Wishek. Art married Alice Wanner on January 1, 1957 in Napoleon, ND. Together they farmed for over 40 years before retiring in Wishek as well. Art continued helping his son, Kermit, as he took over the farm. Art loved harvest time and drove a combine until the age of 87.
Art and Alice were members of St. Andrews Lutheran Church as they began raising their family. Later they transferred their membership to St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wishek. At St. Andrews and at St. Luke Art served as Sunday School Superintendent, assisted the pastors in teaching confirmation classes, and served on the church councils. Art also served in his community by serving several years on the Wishek School Board. He also participated in McIntosh County soil conservation practices. Art was an avid fisherman and pinochle player.
Art is survived by his wife, Alice, and three children: Michelle Brennan (Phil Bleibaum), Wanda (Paul) Engstrom, and Kermit (Dynette) Ketterling. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Adam Brennan, Alison Brennan (Nick Nadeau), Marylea (Trustan) MoChroi, Stephanie Engstrom, Luke Engstrom, Taylor (Cheyenne) Ketterling, Brenna (Devin) Lund, Cole (Sami) Ketterling, Alexa (Lucien) Peterson, Carter Ketterling, Payton Ketterling. Five great grandchildren: Benjamiah MoChroi, Asher and Chase Lund, Micah and Karsyn Ketterling. And many nieces and nephews.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, step mother Adeline, sister Florence and brother in law Ervin Lehr as well as many extended family members, neighbors and friends.
