The graveside service for Armand Pfeifle, of Wishek, ND and Mesa, AZ, will be held in the spring at St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery, Wishek, ND.
Armand, son of Edward and Lydia (Wolf) Pfeifle was born March 6, 1918 in Wishek, ND. He graduated from Wishek High School in 1936, and attended NDAC for two years before being drafted into the US Army. Armand was married to Elsie Moench on August 28, 1943, at Sparta, WI, and they return to Detroit, MI, where he was stationed. During his service Armand and Elsie lived at several Army bases across the country. Armand had the privilege of servicing President Truman in the motor escort division while stationed in Leavenworth, Kansas. He later attended OCS training where he graduated and received his commission as a 1st Lieutenant. Following Armand's discharge he and Elsie returned to Wishek, ND, where he spent most of his life working in the Pfeifle Chevrolet-Buick-Pontiac dealership. He acquired full ownership on July 5, 1956. In 1984 the business was passed on to the third generation, Robert Pfeifle. Armand and Elsie moved to Mesa, AZ in 1987, spending summers in Wishek until his death. Baptized, confirmed and a lifelong member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, he served as deacon, council chairman and secretary, Sunday school teacher, member of the choir and the men's chorus. Civic participation included charter member/president of the Economic Development Corp, commander of the American Legion, president of Wishek Lions Club, co-chairman of the Wishek Diamond Jubilee Committee, member of Elks for 50 years, and a member of the Frank Rigler Golf course. Armand also served on the Wishek school board and Wishek Chamber of Commerce and was instrumental in the fund raising efforts for the building of the Wishek Community Hospital.
Armand Waldron Pfeifle died Oct. 17, 2010 in the Emerald Groves Assisted Living, Mesa, AZ. He was 92 years old.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Elsie, of Wishek, ND and Mesa, AZ, 2 sons and 1 daughter: David (Leslie Paleaux Miller) Pfeifle of Medford, OR; Barbara (Allen) Thunberg of Wesley Chapel, FL; and Robert (Kathy) Pfeifle of Wishek and Mesa, AZ. Eight grandsons: Mark Pfeifle (Washington, DC); Christopher Thunberg, MD of Scottsdale, AZ; Erik Thunberg of Wesley Chapel, FL; Brad, Brett and Preston Pfeifle of Mesa, AZ, Todd Miller, MD of Irvine, CA and Scott Miller, PA of Visalia, CA and three great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Jackson and Parker. 2 brothers and two sisters, Luetta (Vernon) Pepple of Bismarck, ND, Floyd (Ann) Pfeifle of Tucson, AZ, Dr. Delano (Lou) Pfeifle of Lake Lure, NC and Marlene (Lee) Okeson of San Diego, CA. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Terry, and 2 brothers, Myron and Raymond and an infant sister, Vera.
