Obituary

Arlia Wiest, 89, of Wishek, ND, passed away June 1, 2024 at the Wishek Living Center. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 7, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 6, 2024 from 6:30 - 7:30 PM with a prayer service at 7:30 PM at Feist Funeral Home, Wishek. Burial will be held at St. Andrew's Lutheran Cemetery, Zeeland. Following the burial there will be a Celebration of Life gathering at the Duck Inn Bar, Venturia, ND.

Arlia (Arla) Jean (Meidinger) Wiest was born July 3, 1934 on farm southwest of Wishek to Calvin and Frieda (Rueb) Meidinger. She was the oldest of seven girls and one boy. She attended country school until the eighth grade. Arlia married the love of her life Herbert O. Wiest on February 16, 1954 in Zeeland. They lived on the Wiest family farm north of Zeeland, where they raised their four sons. She was a hardworking farm wife, planting and harvesting crops, milking cows, raising chickens, hogs and beef cattle. She loved gardening, crocheting, canning, baking, quilting, sewing, and butchering, you name it she did it. Herbert and Arlia moved to Wishek around 2012 and were caretakers and lived in the Ulmer Apartments until Herberts passing in February of 2018. She then moved to the Wishek Living Center Apartments, where she lived until March of 2024, when she then moved to the nursing home.

Arlia attended Zion Lutheran Church in Zeeland, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid and sang in the church choir. She was a member of the Country Homemakers Club. She also cooked for the Wishek Country Club. Arlia finished her last quilt about six months ago. She made them for all of her sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Arlia is survived by her sons, Richard (Karen) Wiest, Wishek, Erwin Wiest, Eureka, SD, Herbert Wiest Jr., Popular Grove, IL and Rodney (Tina) Wiest, Zeeland; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, sisters, Ardella (Rodney) Buchholz, Fargo, Joyce Finck, Wishek, Janice Willis, Mt. Clemens, MI, Carol Kessler, Aberdeen, SD and Judy Wilson, Haiti, SD; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; parents; grandson, Michael Wiest; sister, Mavis Waelhof; brother, Jerome Meidinger; brothers-in-law, Julius Waelhof, Jay Willis, Darold Finck, Gene Kessler, Gene Wilson, Herman Wiest, Julius Wiest, Ervin Wiest; sisters-in-law, Hertha Wiest and Werna Diele.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the Wishek Living Center for the special care given to mom the last few months.
