Anna Nolz, 97, of Napoleon, ND, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2026, at the Wentz Living Center, Napoleon. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon. Burial will take place at St. Philip Neri Cemetery. Visitation will start at 9:00 am at the church on Wednesday. A live stream of Anna’s funeral will be available on the St. Philip Neri Facebook and YouTube pages.

Anna was born on December 20, 1928, to Katherina (Schumacher) and Pius D. Kuhn. She was the eldest of Pius and Katherina’s nine children growing up on the family farm southwest of Napoleon, where she attended the Weigel District School through grade five. While Anna was helping out her cousins in rural Zeeland, ND, Anna met Martin Nolz on Sunday at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Zeeland. Anna and Martin were married December 28, 1948, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in rural Kintyre, ND. They farmed six miles south and 2 ½ miles west of Napoleon for 31 years until 1980 when they retired from farming and moved to Napoleon in the former American Legion building that they renovated. Anna later said that the renovation was a lot more work than they expected, and she wouldn’t care to do it again, but in the end, she was glad that they did it.

Anna practiced and lived her Catholic faith every day. She was a member of the Christian Mothers and Altar Society at St. Boniface Catholic Church, and later at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, where she also served on the St. Philip’s church board. After moving from the farm to “town,” she became a member of and treasurer for the Beaver Lake Homemakers, and she cooked for weddings, funerals, fundraisers, and other special events at the American Legion Barry-Hoof Post No.72. Together with Martin, Anna often volunteered for Meals on Wheels for the Golden Age Club. She especially enjoyed gardening and growing flowers and was proud to have her yard recognized in 1998 as the Napoleon Homestead’s Yard of the Month. She liked to grow extra vegetables to share with family and friends. Anna had an exceptional work ethic and was busy even after “retirement.”

After Martin passed away in 2011, eventually the home and yard became too much to sustain, and she moved to Napoleon’s Assisted Living Apartments in 2018, and then to the Napoleon Care facility in 2021. Anna truly considered it a blessing to have an excellent care center in Napoleon where everyone knows each other, and the level of care is exceptional.

Anna is survived by daughters, Bernadette (Al) Wald, Dickinson, ND, Marlene (Jake) LaRue, Owassa, OK, Stella Hanson, Bismarck, ND, Annette (Mick) Banes, Littleton, CO; eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; five sisters: Delores Becker, Napoleon, ND, Helen (Pius) Ternes, Bismarck, ND, Betty (Richard) Kuntz, Grand Forks, ND, Barbara (Andy) Hilzendeger, Napoleon, ND, Mary (Gerry) Rattei, Napoleon, ND; sisters-in-law, Ida Kuhn, Lodi CA, and Irene Kuhn, Napoleon, ND.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John Kuhn, Leo Kuhn, and Joe Kuhn; sister-in-law, Leona (Weigel) Kuhn; brother-in-law, John Becker; son-in-law, Greg Hanson; and grandsons, Grant Hanson and Joseph Wald.
