Alvina Sayler, 85, of Wishek, ND, passed away peacefully with some of her family by her side on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at South Central Health, Wishek. Alvina lived a life defined by kindness, humility, generosity, an unwavering work ethic and a genuine love for her family. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, December 29, 2025, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek. Burial will take place at St. Luke Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 28, 2025, from 2:00 - 3:00 pm with a prayer service at 3:00 pm at Feist Funeral Home, Wishek. Alvina was born on September 21, 1940 in Zeeland ND to Albert C. and Emma (Schwind) Meidinger, she was born number 11 of 12 children. She was raised on the family farm north of Zeeland and attended country school in the area. Alvina was united in marriage to Herman Sayler on July 23, 1959 and together they built a life rooted in devotion, laughter, and family. She was told she could not get married until her sister Arlene learned how to milk cows. Together Alvina and Herman settled on a farm 16 miles southwest of Wishek. In 2010, they moved into the town of Wishek and in 2025, they moved into the Wishek Living Center.

Alvina embraced her German Russian heritage and above all was a devoted family person. She was the mother of five children, 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and she loved spending time with all of them. She always enjoyed visiting with her parents, brothers and sisters and their spouses for birthdays, holidays and family picnics, where a good game of pinochle always ensued.  In her younger years, Alvina enjoyed trail rides with the Saddle Club, joined a bowling league and received the most improved bowler award. She was the backbone of her family and an extremely hard worker, while still being able to make certain that all of her children knew that they were loved and the pride and joy of her life.  She would sew her children's clothes and was a really good cook, always ensuring her family had homemade German meals. She took the time to always make sure that the holidays were extra special for her children.  Her children essentially thought she was super human, because she could balance the demands of a family farm along with caring for and nurturing all of her children.  Along with all of her domestic duties, she would do all sorts of field work; milk cows; garden and canning; raise chickens, ducks, and geese; and process their own meat and sausage.  She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church and was guided by her faith, taking joy in passing along that faith to her children and teaching Sunday School classes. Alvina was best known around the area as "The Cake Lady", as she loved baking and decorating cakes for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, and graduations.

Alvina is survived by her husband of 66 years, Herman Sayler; and the proud mother of her five children, Glenn (Glenda) Sayler, Rocky (Cathy) Sayler, Julie (Bob) Latta, Kirk (Jim) Sayler and Clint (Emily) Sayler; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; a brother, Ellon Meidinger, a sister Arlene (Melvin) Kaseman; sisters-in-law, Phyllis A. Meidinger and Delores Meidinger; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter Greta Sayler; sisters Gertrude (Art) Kaseman, Viola (Alvin) Raile, Luella (Eddie/Delton) Foerderer Davis, Alma (Walter) Rath and Lorraine (Adam) Kaseman; brothers, Wilbert (Landina), Wilmer (Wilma), Marvin and Edgar; and sister-in-law Rachel Meidinger.

Alvina will be remembered for her generosity, selflessness, tireless work ethic, and extraordinary devotion to her family. The family would like to thank the Wishek Clinic and Community Hospital and the Wishek Living Center for the excellent care they provided and a very special thanks to Lexie Dallman for her loving care and help.  Lexie was like a guardian angel to Alvina over the past couple of years of her life and could always make her smile.
