Obituary

The funeral for Alvin Roesler, Lehr, North Dakota will be held Saturday, November 17, 2018 at the Zion United Methodist Church in Lehr, ND at 2:00 PM.  Visitation will be held Friday, November 16, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Zion United Methodist Church in Lehr, ND.  Burial will be at the Lehr City Cemetery, Lehr, ND.

Alvin Donald Roesler was born May 8, 1935 on the farm of his parents Albert and Olga (Mintz) Roesler eight miles north of Lehr. During his youth Alvin helped work on the family farm as well as the family business, The Roesler Garage, where he started work at the age of five. He attended Hillsburg School in rural Logan County and served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1961, being stationed in Germany. Upon discharge Alvin returned to the family farm where he was engaged in farming and The Roesler's Garage. On June 29, 1969 Alvin was united in marriage with Sharon Grenz. The couple resided in and raised their family in Lehr, ND.

Alvin continued to farm northeast of Lehr. He also ran Roesler's Garage with his father, Albert and brother, Eugene. Upon Albert's passing, the brothers continued to run Roesler's Garage together.

In addition to farming and mechanic work, Alvin and Sharon purchased the Grenz Variety and Clothing Store in Lehr in 1978 which they operated until 2000. Alvin was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church. He was also a member of Lehr Lions Club, Lehr Fire Department, Lehr Economic Development Corporation and Lehr Senior Citizens. Alvin served on the Lehr School Board and Lehr City Council.

Following a stroke Alvin moved to Eventide on Eighth in Moorhead, MN. He lived there for 4 years attending dialysis 3 days per week. He died peacefully on November 14, 2018 at Eventide.  He was 83 years old.

Alvin was known for his quiet ways, big heart, and quick smile.  You could always count on him for help when it was needed, and you could always count on him to be an advocate for what was right.  The family recalls numerous holidays and family gatherings cut short because someone called asking for help to fix whatever had broken down.  He knew how long of a drive Sharon had going to Napoleon to teach, so each morning he would be the first one out in the cold clearing the walk and warming up the car. His blue eyes and smile always lit up a room and his presence will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his three children, Randell Roesler, West Fargo, ND, Heidi (Chris) Hansen, West Fargo, ND, and Barrie (Jennifer) Roesler, Atlanta, GA; and one grandson Christopher Hansen-Stock, Mandan, ND;  three siblings Erma Anderson, Litchfield Park, AZ, Verna (Robert) Zimmerman, Wishek, ND; and Eugene (Marlyn) Roesler, Lehr, ND; one brother-in-law Rodney (Kay) Grenz, Naples, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Olga and Albert, his wife Sharon, and parents-in-law Eugene and Evelyn Grenz.  Share memories and sign on line guest book at www.dahlstromfuneralservice.com .  Dahlstrom Funeral Home in Wishek, ND entrusted with arrangements.
