Alice (Wanner) Ketterling of Wishek, ND passed away on April 2, 2026, at South Central Health Wishek, at the age of 89. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, April 6, 2026, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at St. Luke Cemetery. A livestream of Alice's funeral service will be available on the St. Luke Wishek YouTube page.
Alice was born on November 7, 1936, in rural Logan County, ND to Karl D. and Lydia (Heupel) Wanner. Alice had a twin brother, Allen, who died of pneumonia as an infant. Alice attended rural schools as she was growing up. Alice married Art E. Ketterling on January 1, 1957, at Peace Lutheran Church in Napoleon, ND. Together they farmed for over 40 years before retiring in Wishek, where Alice often volunteered at the Wishek Retirement Home helping the residents play Bingo.
Alice and Art were members of St. Andrews Lutheran Church as they began raising their family. Later they transferred their membership to St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wishek. At St. Andrews and St. Luke Alice taught Sunday school. She was also active at St. Luke in one of the women's circle groups. As a member of her circle group Alice regularly served lunch at funerals and proudly shared her home made pickles at those lunches. Alice loved gardening. She especially liked having a large garden filled with all sorts of vegetables, tomatoes, lettuce and of course, cucumbers.
Alice is survived by her three children: Michelle Brennan (Phil Bleibaum), Wanda (Paul) Engstrom, and Kermit (Dynette) Ketterling; eleven grandchildren: Adam Brennan, Alison Brennan (Nick Nadeau), Marylea (Trustan) MoChroi, Stephanie Engstrom, Luke Engstrom, Taylor (Cheyenne) Ketterling, Brenna (Devin) Lund, Cole (Sami) Ketterling, Alexa (Lucien) Peterson, Carter Ketterling, Payton Ketterling; six great grandchildren: Benjamiah MoChroi, Asher and Chase Lund, Micah and Karsyn Ketterling and Shad Ketterling; two sisters: Irene Boschee and Marlene Thurn; three brothers: Clarence, Leo and Earl Wanner; brother-in-law: Gary Huber; and many nieces and nephews.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Art E. Ketterling; sisters: Priscilla Wanner and Carol Huber; brothers: Wilbert, Harvey, Allen and Melvin Wanner; as well as many extended family members, neighbors and friends.
