The funeral for Alice M. Hochhalter will be Monday, February 18, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the United Church of Christ, Wishek, ND. Visitation will be 12:00 PM prior the service at the church. Burial will be at the Wishek City Cemetery Wishek, ND.
Alice Marie Stuldreher was born November 7, 1924 at Mandan, ND. She was the youngest of five children of Ludwig Carl Christian Stuhldreher and Roselee (Kennedy) Stuhldreher. As a child Alice performed on the radio with her musical family and was known as Alice the Singing Cowgirl. She attended Mandan High School and graduated from Beauty School in Bismarck, ND. Alice worked as a beautician in Salem, Bismarck and Mandan, ND. Alice proudly supported the war effort by becoming a genuine "Rosie the Riveter," welding aircraft carriers at the Tacoma, WA shipyard during World War II. Alice married Walter Hochhalter on November 5, 1948 at her parent's home in Mandan, ND. The couple farmed and raised their children on the Hochhalter family homestead near Wishek, ND. They provided Kathleen and Rodney with a wonderful childhood full of life's experiences only found on a small rural farm. Alice balanced her busy farm life with her love of the arts. She was an accomplished self-taught artist, organist and guitarist.
Alice died Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Valley City, ND. She was 89 years old.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (Douglas) Martin, Valley City, ND; her son, Rodney (Pamela) Hochhalter, Princeton, MN; grandchildren, Sasha (Joe) Wieczorek, North Branch, MN; Alyssa (Jason) Conitz, Wishek, ND; Aaron Martin, Boonville, CA and great-grandchild, Zachery Wieczorek. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter of 65 years, her parents and her siblings, Mabel Heck, Elsie Wretz, Dorothy Carter and Fredrich Stuhldreher.
