Alice Buerkley, 91, of Kulm, ND, passed away October 1, 2021 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown, ND. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 5 th at 10:00 AM at Kulm Baptist Church. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 4 th from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm. Burial will be held at the Congregational Cemetery, Kulm. A Livestream of Alice's funeral service will be available on the Kulm Baptist Church Facebook page.
Alice was born on January 12, 1930 to Gustave and Christina (Schilling) Woehl in rural Fredonia, ND. She grew up on a farm near Fredonia and attended rural schools till the 8 th grade. She graduated from Kulm High School in 1947 and attended Ellendale Normal Industrial College one summer term to get her teaching certificate. She taught in rural schools for 5 years. She married Herbert Buerkley at Berlin Baptist Church on November 15, 1951. They lived on farm in rural Fredonia and then later moved to a farm south of Kulm. They stayed on the farm until they moved to Kulm in fall of 1974. While living in Kulm, Alice worked for the Kulm Senior Citizens Center for 13 years.
Alice was baptized and became a member of Berlin Baptist Church for 51 years. She served in roles as a Sunday school teacher, Ladies Aid Choir and the Ladies Quartet. In 2010 when the church closed, she became a member of the Kulm Baptist Church.
Alice is survived by her children, Shirley (Brian) Schlecht, Edgeley, ND, Herbert Jr. (Tammy) Buerkley, Kulm, ND, Warren (Deb) Buerkley, Houlton, WI, Carolyn (Jeff) Bertsch, Fargo, ND and Susan (Sam) Buerkley-Wasson, Ashley, ND; 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; sisters Ida (Oscar) Hofman, Medina, ND and Pearlene (Lloyd) Koenig, Suwanee, GA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; parents, Gus and Christina Woehl; brothers, Wilbert and Arthur Woehl.
All donations in honor of Alice Buerkley will be given to the Hospice Services of Jamestown Regional Medical Center.
